» patrirot Time for another Instant Movie Review. I might have been a bit too exuberant in my praise for Unbreakable; it was better than average and well written. However, I can speak with certainty about The Patriot (having just watched it on DVD). I know exactly how i feel about this movie... It's CRAP. It disgusted me and insulted my intellegence. It's contrived and poorly written. Made to appeal to the most mindless of movie-goers. Every scene was ineptly crafted to drive the single-minded plot of revenge. The dialogue was awful and thoughtless and did not even attempt to resemble historical accuracy. Mel Gibson's acting was so bad that the editor was forced to cut away from him to a reaction shot during one of his weepy speeches about Family. Like Braveheart (Oscar? What the fuck?), here is another WAY TOO LONG showcase of Mel Gibson running around in slow motion, raising the fighting ire of his band of outcast and rag-tag men. Followed by far too many BATTLE SCENES dripping with gratuitous gore. I couldn't even make it to the credits. The end of this movie was a series of dissolve shots to...A NEW SCEQUENCE! I just wanted the damn credits to roll! Blah blah blah... I could go on and on but I won't. I can't believe such bilge gets bought and shot. I've got to get going on my own little pathetic film projects. Clearly the world needs me.
